Beijing
Canal, a professional platform created in 2020 by the French National Center for Dance, will debut in Asia for the first time in 2025. An event aimed at the choreographic community, Canal Asia will highlight French and Chinese creations, promote exchanges between industry professionals, and strengthen collaborations between France and China and more broadly Asia.
For two days, the studios of the Beijing Dance Academy will be taken over by invited French and Chinese cultural institutions to present choreographers whose work they support.
In total, 16 choreographers – 8 French and 8 Chinese – , as well as 2 choreographers presented by the BDA, will come to present their artistic project to professionals (programmers, broadcasters, representatives of educational institutions, artists, etc.) from all over Asia (China, Japan, Korea, Singapore…).

The presented projects can be at different stages of their creation: in the design phase, in production, or already completed and seeking distribution. Each choreographer will be free to choose the format of their presentation: excerpts from performances, run-throughs, projections, oral presentations, etc.
In addition to the presentations, several sessions will be organized to foster exchanges between choreographers and professional audiences: collective moments, conferences, and debates.
The exchanges will be conducted in French, Chinese, and English with interpreting devices. To learn more about the previous editions of Canal in France click here.
Canal 2025 is presented by the French Embassy in China and the Centre national de la Danse, in partnership with the Beijing Dance Academy and with the support of the French Institute.
